Café Tortoni – Buenos Aires, Argentina
One of the oldest coffee houses in South America is Café Tortoni, a beautiful and regal coffee house located in downtown Buenos Aires, Argentina. Opened in 1858, it was inspired by Parisian coffeehouses where artists and thinkers would gather to talk and drink together.
Café Tortoni is decorated in classic Art Deco splendor. The ceilings are full of stained glass and the walls are covered in artwork and busts that honor famous regulars, like Jorge Luis Borges. They have all sorts of drinks and food on offer, but their most famous menu item by far is the hot chocolate with churros. The thick hot chocolate is served in a squat, wide mug, and is perfect for dipping.
