4 Ways You Can Help Stop Human Trafficking in Your Travels
| June 8, 2016
4. Seek Help
If you have identified a suspicious situation, take action. In some ways, it’s easier to act now than it used to be. Major airports are becoming aware of the trafficked people passing through their cities, and many are responding with advanced training for their staff. We also have access to organizations and call services that can help.
Speak out by:
- Talking to a member of staff at the airport (especially airport security) or on your plane (flight attendant)
- Calling or emailing the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (1-888-373-7888 / nhtrc@polarisproject.org)
- Report the tip online at ice.gov/tips.
- For an emergency where someone is in immediate danger, call 911. (Be sure to also notify the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, so that someone knowledgeable about trafficking accompanies the police.)
If you frequent certain airports or areas of the world, consider adding regional resources to your list of contacts. For instance, in Atlanta alone there are resources like Out of Darkness, Youth Spark, Beloved Atlanta, Human Trafficking Resources, Wellspring, and Haven ATL.
Everyone can play a part in ending human trafficking. Will you help?
