Watch Your Step: A Guide to Walking the Famous Wales Coast Path
A Word of Caution
There are dangers associated with the path, namely: The tide and landslides.
The tide in Wales comes in very fast, and every year some tourists get trapped by it. Don’t be one of them. If you’re going to be down on the beach, check tide times before you leave or watch carefully for a good ten minutes to determine if it’s going in or out. Make sure you always have access to higher ground.
You might notice during your hike that the normally gray or blue water (depending on the weather) turns red. This is from a landslide. Though the ground looks safe, the nearer the cliff edge you go the less secure it will be. Sometimes the grass is literally hanging over nothing, but you can’t tell from the angle you’re standing. Stay well away from the edge. If a path is closed, take the detour.
But don’t let these cautions scare you off. As long as you use good common sense, you’ll have a fabulous time! Besides, what’s an adventure without a little danger?
