This coastline of interlocking hexagonal balsalt columns in Antrim, Northern Ireland looks manmade, but was formed by volcanic activity 50 to 60 million years ago. Locals once thought the delicately patterned rock formation was the work of giants who used it to stroll across the North Channel of the Irish Sea to Scotland.
