4. Kalalau Trail

This hike is perfect for visitors to Hawaii who want to experience more of the country than just the touristy resorts and all-inclusives. The Kalalau Trail stretches 22 miles (roundtrip) along the coast of the island of Kauai.

Along the way, you’ll pass through amazing beaches, and gorgeous rainforests, plus the occasional waterfall. Just be careful if you’re hiking Kalalau in the summer. Humidity can make hiking along this trail exhausting. You’ll need a permit to complete the full hike and to sleep overnight, but you can hike along the first few miles of the trail without a permit.
