It’s a shame that this ancient and beautiful city has fallen prey to the modern evils of pollution. An estimated 35,000 people in Cairo die every year from breathing poor-quality air.
Sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides and invisible gases have been known to form a ‘black cloud’ over the city in recent years thanks to heavy car traffic, industrial toxins and desert dust.
