Two of the world’s most polluted cities can be found in Russia, one of which being the former chemical and biological weapons manufacturing city of Dzershinsk.

From the 1930s to the 1990s, the Soviets released approximately 300,000 tons of chemical waste into the environment surrounding Dzershinsk, despite the community having 245,000 residents. The city remains a chemical manufacturing hub today but the Russian government has supposedly allocated funds to clean the area up.
