There’s a reason why they say you should properly dispose of used electronics. Toxic fumes generated by the improper disposal of electronic goods have overtaken the city of Accra in Ghana.
Around 129,000 tons of waste are disposed of annually and often burned in order to harvest the remaining copper. This practice is releasing lead and mercury into the atmosphere and affecting an estimated 250,000 people living in the city.
