3 Mountain Highlands That Will Astonish You in Bukovina, Romania
3. Călimani Mountains
These imposing mountains mark the frontier between Bukovina and another wonderful region from Romania: Transylvania. They are, as well, the highest volcanic mountains and one of the wildest areas in my beautiful home country.
There are a lot of natural treasures to stop by and stare at around here and, of course, I’m going to tell you more about the ones I love most.
The 12 Apostles Natural Reservation is a place I never get tired of. Stretching between the restless Neagra Sarului creeks and the fairytale scenery of Poiana Negri, this reservation is famous for a series of unusual rock formations. The rocks are extremely similar to humans and various creatures, which is why they received names like Old Man, Marshal, Ramses, Lizard, Camel, Dragons, Caesar or Nefertiti.
Think about it – it’s like visiting a wax museum (well, rock museum in this case) within a natural landscape and the celebrities are replaced by animals, mythical creatures, random people and mysterious characters.
