Istanbul has been a featured filming location on three Bond movies: most recently, the opening scene in Skyfall where Bond chases the villains through the city streets and on to the rooftops was shot in the Grand Bazaar in Old Town, and Eminönü Square. From Russia with Love also featured shots of the Istanbul skyline and Bosphorus River, which beautifully complimented the scenes shot in the gorgeous Hagia Sophia, a building that began its life as a church, then became a mosque, and is now a museum. It is a symbol of Istanbul’s changing history over the years, and is a must-see on any vacation — Bond themed or otherwise.
