If you’ve ever been frustrated about being stuck in an airport with nothing to do on an extended layover, look no further than Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport. An airport has stood on that spot since 1916, and they soon realized that people want to be able to explore their city, so they arranged for short (two to three hour) city tours that depart from the airport every day.

If you’re bored, they have a free library, and you can buy a pass to the Sheraton Fitness center if you’re feeling restless. They also have a remarkable museum open daily which features the works of several Old Masters. They even let you have your wedding at Schiphol, with the tarmac in the background – but you probably have to arrange that in advance.
