8. Salina Island, Italy

Salina is one of the tiny islands just off the coast of the Italian island of Sicily. It’s not as famous as some of the neighboring islands, but it’s prized by visitors because it has managed to remain largely untouched by tourism.

The whole island is only 10 square miles, which means that it’s easy to get around. You can spend your days hiking up the island’s volcanoes, wandering through wild groves of caper bushes and chestnut trees, and exploring the tiny villages where the island 4,000 residents have built their homes.

As if that wasn’t enough, Salina is also home to beautiful, unspoilt beaches, ringed with excellent restaurants and cafes.
