4 Assumptions You Should Never Make About England

4. The Weather Is Horrible

This one isn’t a wrong assumption – the weather is horrible. You can imagine how much I suffered leaving sunny Rio de Janeiro to cloudy, rainy and vitamin D lacking London. Still, it’s not always awful and if you’re in England at the right time and in the right place, you’ll have a blast!

Last year I spent the summer in Cornwall and it couldn’t have been better! When the sun is out and about, England can be one of the most magical places to explore — and believe me, if you want to see mayhem, visit Brighton on a hot sunny day. It’s crazy!

I could carry on saying that many people visit only London and think they know England (they don’t) or that some people claim there isn’t a proper English cuisine — the fools have never tried a sticky toffee pudding drenched in custard. But I won’t.

The truth is, everyone has misconceptions and expectations when they visit a new country — you’ll never fully understand another culture, unless you either live there or travel for an extended amount of time.

So next time you visit a new country and it’s not what you expect, try to remember that probably the country is exactly how it’s supposed to be, but you have a different image in your mind.

Be willing to change; be willing to learn.
