Life is Highway: The World’s Most Quintessential Road Trips
Pacific Coast Highway, USA
There are plenty of beautiful roads worth driving right here at home, one of which is the 123-mile Pacific Coast Highway in Central California extending from Monterey down to Morro Bay.
In between, you’ll pass through the quaint town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, feel small under the towering redwoods of Big Sur, and see the stunning white sands of Pfeiffer beach. The whole trip can be done in about five hours, but with so much beauty to see you’ll want the trip to last all day.
La Route des Grande Alps, France
Perhaps the best way to experience the French Alps is to drive along La Route des Grand Alps, which extends from Lake Geneva all the way down to the French Riviera on the Mediterranean Sea. The 425-mile route winds across the highest points of the Alps and follows many of the same routes taken by the Tour de France.
The Mongol Rally, Europe/Asia
If you’re looking for the ultimate road trip, The Mongol Rally is a 10,000-mile car rally that just about anyone can join so long as they raise at least £1000 for charity. Starting in London and ending in Siberia, the route you take is up to you, however many teams find themselves passing through countries like Russia, Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan. The trip typically takes most teams between three and four weeks to complete.
