Your Guide to Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro
Beach
After too many blocos and Antarctica beers, you’ll need a breather. Luckily, you’ve got your choice of beaches just a short walk away no matter where you are, if you’re staying in Zona Sul.
Copacabana is perhaps the most famous beach, and full of vendors, but not the prettiest nor the cleanest. Further down from Copacabana towards Morro do Leme is Leme beach – bigger, better, and cleaner but also quieter. On the other side of Arpoador (the best place to catch a sunset) from Copacabana is Ipanema beach, followed by Leblon beach. These beaches are packed with sunbathers, so arrive early to catch a spot.
Essentials: Planning Your Carnaval Trip
A little bit of planning will go a long way in making your Carnaval experience a total success. If it’s your first Carnaval, you might be overwhelmed by the lack of English information on the internet. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!
