6 Alluring Buildings to See in Ghent, Belgium
| January 22, 2016
5. Saint Nicholas Church
Undoubtedly one of the most impressive and famous of all existing attractions in downtown Ghent, Saint Nicholas Church is a very old building, dating back to the early 13th century. Its central tower, which will most certainly catch your attention, has been used as an observation post for many years. Situated along the crowded Korenmarkt (the Corn Market), the church was completely renovated in the early 20th century, when a number of neighboring houses were demolished.
Its tall, stone-made interior offers exceptional postcard-like images, seasoned with multiple columns and a ravishing cupola. One of the main elements of the Saint Nicholas Church is the organ, made by the famous French organ maker, Aristide Cavaille Coll.
