6 Alluring Buildings to See in Ghent, Belgium
6. Ghent Town Hall
Built over a long period of time, this flamboyant monument gathers a variety of contrasting architectural styles. The oldest parts can be found on the Hoogpoort Street, and it was crafted in the style of the Bruges Hall, in 1482. It hosts several council chambers and a newer wing (developed in the late Gothic approach, with plenty of statues and ornaments) projected by architects Rombout Keldermans and Dominik of Wagemaker.
The Town Hall is hard to miss – displaying a stark contrast between the elaborate Gothic details and the clear, plain Renaissance lines, the place witnessed some great historical moments. The interior features stained glass windows, a labyrinth, wooden arched ceilings, a Wedding Chapel and many other interesting stop-and-stare spots.
Fascinating as it is, this pleasant tour has come to an end. Time for you to relax and start planning for some new travelling adventures!
