The Most Beautiful University and College Campuses in the World
University of Oxford
The oldest university in the English-speaking world is the University of Oxford. Although the date has been debated, it’s thought that lectures began there around 1096. Technically, there’s no main campus buildings — like Cambridge, there are multiple smaller colleges within the town of Oxford, each schooling, housing, and feeding their students independently. Everything in town is walkable—just make sure to stay off the crisply mowed lawns—they’re for looking at, not walking on. The most famous buildings on campus are the Bodleian Library and the Radcliffe Camera, which was built in 1749 to house the Radcliffe Science Library. The University Church of St. Mary the Virgin also attracts regular visitors — its delicate spire has been called the most beautiful in England.
