The Most Breathtaking Libraries
Handelingenkamer
Location: The Hague, Netherlands
The Handelingenkamer, which roughly translates to “old library,” is the Dutch Parliamentary Library. Its main purpose is to hold every record of the Parliament’s hearings and discussions. Although the contents of the library sound boring, the interior is the furthest thing from it!
At first glance, visitors will notice the classic design of the building, but it doesn’t take long before the dragon heads along the walls of the library as well as the Chinese-inspired images hidden in the beautiful wrought-iron balustrades come into view. This library can be best described as European architecture with hints of the East.
To top all of this off, the ceiling of the library is made of elegant glass that allows natural light to flow throughout the building, brightening up the beautiful artwork and design.
