5. Aspen
One of the most popular ski locations in the United States is Aspen. This Colorado ski resort is known for its uniquely challenging ski runs, which are spread over four mountains linked by a free shuttle. The entire area is called Aspen Snowmass, and it’s a perfect challenge for advanced skiers. If you’re looking for tough terrain, head to Highlands, but if you’re more comfortable on bunny hills, Buttermilk is the place to go.
Like many of these resorts, Aspen was originally a Victorian mining town and retains much of its charming town center. Many of the double black diamond runs are named for the mining shafts that would have once run underneath, like Last Dollar and Short Snort.
Six-day lift passes cost $774.
