4. Innsbruck, Austria
Innsbruck is the capital of the Tyrol region, and for years has been a hot winter destination because of its proximity to the ski slopes of the Alps. It’s hosted the Olympic Winter Games twice, which is pretty remarkable for such a small city.
If you’re not a skier, there’s still plenty to do. There are beautiful churches all throughout the picturesque downtown area, and Innsbruck even has a zoo specializing in Alpine animals. If you want to explore the Alps on foot, you can take a tram to the Nordpark, where many hiking routes start. Then, when you’re done, head back into the city for some warm and comforting Austrian cuisine.
