The thing I noticed most about the downtown area was that the average person was considerably younger than I had remembered as a kid. The impact of nearby Humboldt State University has clearly assisted in creating a more utilized downtown region. Walking down 2nd street, which is Eureka’s main downtown strip, there were students walking about in throngs. Coffee shops like Los Bagels and Old Town Coffee were painted brightly with customers sipping mid-day lattes while skimming their open textbooks.
