Lake Toba
Lake Toba is the largest volcanic lake in the world, covering an area of 1,707 square kilometers. It’s estimated that the lake was formed some 70,000 years ago by a gigantic volcanic eruption that represented a climate-changing event such as a previous ice age. Travelers can visit Samosir Island (which is technically an island within Sumatra Island) and see the Batak culture with their statues and ceremonies.
