The 16 Most Dangerous and Beautiful Places on Earth

Jacob’s Well, Wimberley, Texas

Jacob’s Well in Wimberley, Texas, is a perennial spring flowing into Cypress Creek. The mouth of the spring is approximately 4 meters wide with a straight depth of about 10 meters. The spring then continues downward on an angle.

While the spring is a popular swimming hole, it is also attractive to divers, but this is where it gets dangerous. For experienced cave divers, the well presents an opportunity to explore, but for open-water divers, with little technical cave expertise, Jacob’s Well can prove fatal. To date, 8 divers have died in Jacob’s Well, despite local authorities attempting to dissuade divers from entering the caves. The allure is just too great.
