The 16 Most Dangerous and Beautiful Places on Earth

Mount Huashan hiking trail, China
With the ethereal beauty of misty mountains as the backdrop, the hiking trip up Mount Huashan in China is among the most perilous in the world. Exceedingly narrow rock ledges or wooden boards haphazardly attached together function as footholds in places, with a metal chain attached to the rock face for climbers to hold on to. In some places there are rock stairs carved into the mountainside, in other areas a chain and metal bars are the only way up the steep face.
The mountain has a history of fatal falls from the trail, but the remoteness and sheer beauty, as well as the challenge, are enough for plenty of thrill seekers to attempt the hike each year.
