Great Mosque – Mecca, Saudi Arabia
It’s hard to talk about a site that has such massive significance to such a large percentage of the world’s religious worshippers. Words do not do it justice. The Great Mosque surrounds the holiest site in Islam, the Kaaba, and all Muslims are required to make a visit to the Kaaba at least once in their lifetime.
This visit, called Hajj, is one of the five pillars of the Islamic faith. The Quran states that Abraham himself laid the foundation of the Great Mosque, and the site has been in continuous use ever since.
