International Festival of New Latin American Cinema

Formerly called the Havana Film Festival, every year the city of Havana hosts the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, which promotes filmmakers from around Latin America. The first festival took place in 1979 and since then a panel of distinguished adjudicators have been tasked with picking 10 films a year to show to industry professionals and the public.

In the first year, the adjudicating panel received over 600 submissions from all over South and Central America and the Caribbean. The only qualification for the films is that they should reaffirm Latin American and Caribbean cultural identity.
