4. Pickled Herring
As herring have been a key part of the Norwegian diet for hundreds of years, this dish is popular among the locals.
The pickled herring can be dipped in a variety of sauces – mustard, sherry, tomato, vinegar, or sugar-based — and eaten with rye bread (as a lunch buffet) or as an appetizer.
It’s a tasteful dish that can be combined however you feel like. You can eat it over and over again and think you’ve sampled something different every single time – at least that’s what I experienced. And I loved it!
