4 Fishy Dishes to Try in Norway
Well, it’s obvious that, besides the Nordic Vikings’ descendants, travelers can also enjoy the plethora of fish-based dishes while they’re visiting these northern latitudes.
And there are many of them (including myself) who realise that, when you have fresh fish available, you’d better enjoy its sweet sea taste, which is always complimented by the finest Norwegian cooking simplicity.
I don’t want to miss a significant detail about the Norwegian breakfast, which usually consists of fish, as well: smoked salmon, herring, caviar, shrimp, crab or smoked eel. Along with scrambled eggs and tomatoes, fish successfully transforms the Norwegian breakfast into a special and delicious meal.
It’s pretty important and interesting to mention that, in Norway, where cold and rainy months are followed by a long winter, people eat pretty consistently. Besides fish, basic meals consist of meat — poultry and mutton in particular — potatoes, pasta and sweets. Locals drink plenty of milk, tea, coffee and beer. Also, a lot of diverse snacks are consumed, including a wide selection of cakes.
My well-learned conclusion: don’t be afraid of trying! You’re in the country where fish is fresh and consumed on a daily basis, so make the most out of your trip. Of course, don’t ignore other delicious non-fishy dishes.
And while tasting these lovely specialties, have fun (and your camera ready) enjoying Norway’s charming sceneries – you’ll be mesmerized!
