Another invention that is credited to the Swiss is landjäger sausage. It’s a dried, smoked sausage made of beef, pork, and lard that was first carried by Alpine explorers, hunters, and soldiers because it lasts weeks without needing to be refrigerated. It can be enjoyed while still dried or boiled and eaten as part of a warm meal with potatoes and greens.

Many beer gardens in Switzerland and Germany stock dried landjägers for people to snack on as they enjoy their drinks.
