The Beast of Gevaudan
In the mid-to-late 1760s, a dog-like creature terrorized the area that was once referred to as Gevaudan, France. Over the course of three years, the beast, that was thought to be a werewolf, attacked 210 times, with 113 of these incidents resulting in death. As such, it was said that King Louis XV hired professional hunters to get rid of the beast, but they were unable to do so successfully until a local hunter stepped in.
