12 of the World’s Most Colorful Beaches
| April 14, 2017
Siesta Key, Sarasota, Florida
Most people flee north to escape the wet and swampy Florida summer heat, but those in the know just go to Siesta Key in Sarasota where there’s a pristine white beach that never gets too hot. Quartz deposits that shifted over from the Appalachian Mountains thousands of years ago make up 99% of the sugary white sand on this incredible beach. The fine, powdery grains feel silky to the touch and stay cool even in the hot Southern sun. Siesta Key would also make for a perfect winter escape, but it might get crowded; the town’s population nearly doubles during the winter season.
