The Lion King
The Lion King is one of the longest-running Broadway musicals of all time and was the second musical to be adapted for the stage by Disney Theatrical Productions. Directed by inventive stage and film director Julie Taymor, the show makes use of puppetry, masks, dance, and song to tell the story of Simba and the lions of Pride Rock.
In 2014, 17 years after it first opened in 1997, The Lion King became the highest-grossing stage and film franchise of all time, surpassing The Phantom of the Opera. There have been dozens of productions all over the world, translated into languages ranging from Dutch to Japanese.
