The Book of Mormon
One of the only musicals on this list not based on a book or film, The Book of Mormon tells the story of two young Mormon missionaries as they proselytize in a Ugandan village. It was written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez — the first two of whom work together on the long-running TV series South Park.
The Book of Mormon is irreverent, hilarious, and completely inappropriate for children. Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells, who were the first stars of the Broadway run, parlayed their involvement in the show into respectable careers on both stage and screen.
