Cultured Palate: Dishes from Germany
| October 18, 2017
Schnitzel
Schnitzel has become the most quintessential German food found all over the world. It is frequently confused with the traditional Austrian dish wiener schnitzel, which is made with veal instead of pork.
At its heart, schnitzel is simply a cut of meat, pounded thin, then breaded and fried. Most simply, this dish is served with a slice of lemon, but there are varieties of schnitzel that come with different sauces, or a different spice profile in the breading. Often, schnitzel is served alongside German potato salad or spätzle.
