Another town that figures prominently into German fairy tales and myths is the town of Bremen, in the north of Germany. The story called the Town Musicians of Bremen was written by the Brothers Grimm, and tells the story of a troupe of older animals who decide to go to Bremen and live as musicians.
Even though the town never actually appears in the tale, the real-life Bremen has adopted the story of the misfit animals as a favorite local legend. There’s a fountain depicting the four animals in downtown Bremen, and people passing by always rub the hooves of the donkey for luck.
