Reichenstein Castle
Reichenstein Castle is a large castle that stands on a mountainous area of the Bingen Forest, just above Trechtingshausen. The famous legend that made Reichenstein famous is the story of the robber knights that occupied the castle in the last part of the 13th century.
After King Rudolph I captured the castle, he ordered it destroyed and hung all of the robbers except for their leader, Dietrich von Hohenfels. The ghosts of the robbers are said to haunt the castle grounds, even though the castle itself was completely rebuilt in the 19th century.
