Niddry Street Vaults
When they were first built, the Niddry Street Vaults were used for both homes and as storefronts for tradesmen. However, as the years went on, the water level of the river began to rise, which left these vaults in less-than-desirable condition. After that, they were taken over by less scrupulous members of society, and used as brothels, taverns, and worse. Serial killers regularly haunted the vaults, and people could disappear from the area without a trace. The vaults were closed for centuries, but were excavated in the 1980s. Now, they’re considered one of the most haunted places on the planet. Visitors regular report hearing shuffling feet, crying, and can feel the touch of ghostly hands in the dark.
