Tallest Unoccupied Buildings in the World

4. Burj El Murr Tower
This 34-story tower in Beirut, Lebanon has stood abandoned since 1975. Not because of bankruptcy or poor planning, but because the project was taken over by an armed militia during the Lebanese civil war.
The tower was originally meant to include a shopping mall and offices. However, militants took over the building and started using the unfinished upper floors as shooting platforms and the basement levels as hostage prisons.
Although much of downtown Beirut was destroyed during the war, Burj El Murr is still standing today and cannot be finished or demolished due to structural issues.
