The Best Distilleries in the USA

2. Maker’s Mark
Another well-respected American distillery along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail is Maker’s Mark, which produces their own named brand of small-batch bourbon whiskey. They’ve been open since 1958, and unlike Buffalo Trace, their distillery complex only produces one type of whiskey, although they occasionally bottle special limited-edition collector’s bottles.
If you’re going through Loretto, Kentucky, and want to stop in, their tours are all first-come, first-served. Although you can cool your heels at their on-site restaurant, Star Hill Provisions, while you wait. Regular tours happen a few times a day, but you can also book ahead for specialty tours, which focus on barrel-aging, mixology, and other bourbon-related topics.
