Weirdest Ceremonies from Other Cultures

Three-Day Post-Wedding Bathroom Ban

Weddings are a joyful time in any culture — different families being joined together, usually accompanied with celebration, song, dance, and food! In the Tidong tribe of Indonesia, the bride and groom are separated before the wedding, and only after the groom sings the bride multiple love songs is the curtain between them dropped so they can finally see each other again. However, the more unusual custom comes after the wedding, when the bride and groom are finally allowed to be together. For three days and nights after their wedding, they are monitored by friends and family to make sure that they do not use the bathroom. Using the bathroom during this three-day period is thought to be extremely bad luck.
