10 Reasons Trump’s Energy Plan Poses Major Climate Threats

Death tolls would rise

We hate to sound dramatic, but evidence has shown that under Trump’s energy plan, mortality rates in the U.S. would likely rise as a side effect of his inaction against climate change. Extreme temperatures are known to exacerbate cardiovascular issues and can cause heart attacks and strokes, which will undoubtedly affect the U.S.’s increasingly 65+ population. An event such as the 1995 Chicago heatwave, which resulted in more than 700 deaths, could become an annually occurring problem.

The Center for Disease Control has also stated that higher temperatures will lead to an increase in disease-carrying insect populations, making illnesses like West Nile, Zika and Lyme Disease more commonplace.

It’s estimated that a future with higher emissions could cause an additional 3000 to 12000 deaths per year in the United States by the year 2050 and

an additional 12,000 to 65,000 deaths by the end of the century.

What Trump flippantly dismisses as “bulls**t,” all world leaders and the majority of the world’s scientists and watchdog groups agree is a dire threat to our way of life here on earth. The effects of climate change are already being felt today. If the United States — and its elected president — chooses not to act, the consequences here at home and globally could be irreversible, long lasting and potentially catastrophic.
