10 Reasons Trump’s Energy Plan Poses Major Climate Threats
Greenhouse gas emissions would increase
Prior to the Paris Agreement, scientists predicted the world’s environmental trajectory for the next century based on two scenarios; one with a high-emissions future which we would continue on should Trump win the presidency and changes to our emissions output are not made, and one with a low-emissions future consistent with the goals of the Paris agreement. While the low-emissions option would keep the world’s carbon dioxide atmospheric concentration from rising above 450 parts per million, the high-emissions scenario that Trump seems to be in favor of would cause them to soar to over 550 ppm by 2050 and would reach over 900 ppm by 2090.
Numerous scientists agree that in order for humans to continue living comfortably on earth, C02 levels need to be brought back down to 350ppm, a feat that would be unattainable should the U.S. move forward with Trump’s plan to backtrack on climate change efforts.
