10 Things That Would Happen if Every Volcano on Earth Erupted at Once
Worldwide climate change
With great plumes of ash blocking out the sun, the planet would cool rapidly and turn summer to winter almost immediately. The 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia led to climate changes so severe that 1816 was known as ‘The Year without Summer’ when global temperatures decreased by several degrees. Snow fell in New England, Europe was plagued by cold rains and crops halfway around the world failed all due to a single eruption, so you can imagine what a global chain reaction would do.
The initial cool down would eventually change tides and temperatures around the world would rise thanks to the carbon dioxide that would be released into the atmosphere by simultaneous eruptions. Although it would take a hundred years or so, the impact on the environment in the long term would be devastating, especially considering that earth’s volcanoes already produce 200 million tons of C02, while man contributes nearly 100 times that amount.
