Even if you were one of the lucky few not to live in the immediate vicinity of an eruption, your quality of life would be quite poor. Once the volcanic ash in the atmosphere spreads its way around the planet, air quality would be so poor one would need a gas mask just to breathe. Those without access to masks would be left to breathe in volcanic ash, which can cause a multitude of respiratory and immune system problems.

Experts say the best probability of survival would be for those on cruise ships in the middle of the ocean or in underground bunkers. But for those of us who can’t afford to take off on a yacht or secure a spot in a swanky apocalypse shelter, life on earth would be short and highly unpleasant.
