Around the World in Icy Treats

Es puter

Es puter is an Indonesian treat that looks a lot like ice cream, but it’s actually churned up with coconut milk and coconut cream instead of with their dairy equivalents. Since coconut milk doesn’t freeze as well as dairy milk, the texture of es puter is often less smooth than ice cream. Es puter is often served on a slice of bread, or in a cone, topped with sticky rice, crushed peanuts, chocolate sprinkles, or chopped avocado.
