Around the World in Icy Treats
| July 18, 2018
Es puter
Es puter is an Indonesian treat that looks a lot like ice cream, but it’s actually churned up with coconut milk and coconut cream instead of with their dairy equivalents. It’s often flavored with fruit and other sweet inclusions like red beans, mung beans, and palm sugar are common. Since coconut milk doesn’t freeze as well as dairy milk, the texture of es puter is often less smooth than ice cream. Es puter is often served on a slice of bread, or in a cone, topped with sticky rice, crushed peanuts, chocolate sprinkles, or chopped avocado.
