Love Holidays from Around the World

10. Dydd Santes Dwynwen – Wales

The Welsh patron saint of lovers, St. Dwynwen, is celebrated throughout Wales every year on January 25th. Dwynwen was a woman who lived in the 5th century and became a nun because her father would not permit her to marry the man that she loved. She founded a church known as Llanddwyn off the coast of Anglesey, and legend has it that there’s a magical well on the island with a sacred fish whose movements can be used to divine the future.

Even if you can’t make it to Llanddwyn, this Dydd Santes Dwynwen, celebrate the holiday by mailing out Welsh greeting cards. There are tons distributed in Welsh grocery stores by the Welsh language board every year.
