The World in Pumpkin Dishes

Kolak

Kolak is a popular dessert that comes from Indonesia. The dish can use different ingredients including banana, sweet potato, squash, or the magnificent pumpkin. Kolak is made by cooking the pumpkin in coconut milk which is flavored with pandanus leaf. Palm sugar, or sometimes coconut sugar, is then added to give the dessert a sweet hit.

Kolak can be served cold with the addition of a few ice cubes, but it is more often eaten at room temperature. It is also a popular dish to eat at iftar, which is the meal eaten by Muslims when they have breakfast at sunset during Ramadan.
