The World in Pumpkin Dishes

Pumpkin Talkari

The humble pumpkin is so delicious that it is literally eaten all over the globe, including in the Caribbean where it is used to make a dish called pumpkin talkari. It is a particular favorite in Trinidad where it can also be called Trinidadian pumpkin choka.

It is made with mashed pumpkin which is mixed with Indian curry powder and another spice called geera. It is usually served as a side dish rather than as a main meal. It can also be found on menus along with sada roti, which is a kind of flatbread that is reminiscent of naan bread. The idea is to use the bread to scoop up and eat the talkari or choka.
