9. Thirteen Desserts – France

If you celebrate Christmas in Provence, your meals will end with a very traditional spread of desserts. This tradition is known as Thirteen Desserts, and involves each Provencal family offering guests thirteen separate desserts following the meals eaten between Christmas Eve and December 27th.

The number 13 represents Jesus and his twelve Apostles. The first four desserts are always raisins, walnuts, dried figs, and almonds (they represent different orders of monks), but after that, it differs depending on family tradition, but you’ll definitely be able to sample a variety of cakes, cookies, fresh fruit, and candy.
